Brown back on the field

New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown is back on the practice field, but his status for Sunday remains uncertain. Brown described his availability for the game against the New York Jets as still up in the air after practicing this week for the first time since the season opener.

The receiver suffered a right high ankle sprain during the third quarter of New England's season opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle. He was a limited participant in Wednesday's session and hoped to build up his daily workload.

Recovery and coach decision

Brown mentioned that working on the side during his recovery was getting a bit boring, so returning to the field was a welcome change. He said he felt pretty good during his return but noted he is taking a one step at a time approach.

His ankle will get tested during Thursday's padded practice. Brown explained that head coach Mike Vrabel will make the final call based on what is best for the team over the entire season rather than just a temporary decision.

Brown also shared how he felt when the injury first happened. As he lay on the field in Seattle, he worried he would miss his wife Kelsey's nursing school graduation in New Jersey that weekend. Vrabel excused him from mandatory rehabilitation so he could attend the ceremony, something Brown said he deeply appreciated.

Fast turnaround ahead for New England

The Patriots currently hold a 3-2 record, while the visiting Jets sit at 2-3. After Sunday's division game, New England faces a quick schedule. They travel to take on the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Oct. 22.
