Responsible gambling
Last updated 12 September 2026
Betting should be entertainment, never a way to make money or solve money problems.
Simple rules that help
- Set a budget before you start and never go above it.
- Only bet money you can afford to lose. Never borrow to bet.
- Do not chase losses. A losing run is part of betting, not a sign that a win is due.
- Take regular breaks and do not bet when you are upset, tired or have been drinking.
Warning signs
Betting more than you planned, hiding it from family, feeling anxious when you are not betting, or betting to win back money are signs that it is time to stop and talk to someone.
Getting help
In Kenya, betting is regulated by the Betting Control and Licensing Board, and the legal age to bet is 18. Most licensed bookmakers let you set deposit limits or exclude yourself from your account settings.
Free and confidential support is available from organisations such as Gamblers Anonymous and GamCare. Talking to a doctor or someone you trust is a good first step.
