Air Force Service Member Dies After Pregame Fall at Alamodome
A service member died after falling during a pregame rappelling demonstration before UTSA played Navy on Saturday.

Tragedy Before Kickoff
An Air Force service member has died following a fall at the Alamodome before Saturday's football game between UTSA and Navy. The service member was participating in a pregame demonstration prior to kickoff.
Nellis Air Force Base Public Affairs released a statement regarding the incident. The service member was assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2. Officials confirmed that the individual suffered injuries at the stadium and died later at a local hospital. The Air Force has not released the identity of the service member, and an investigation into the fall is currently active.
Pregame Ceremony Incident
The fall took place as part of the pregame ceremonies for UTSA's annual Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans game. Four officers were scheduled to rappel down from the stadium rafters to the field 15 minutes before the game was set to start.
During the descent, the officer appeared to lose control on the line, sliding down quickly and crashing onto the turf. Medical personnel immediately ran onto the field to treat the officer. He was removed from the Alamodome on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital. The start of the game was delayed by 10 minutes while medical crews responded to the situation.
School Statement and Support
UTSA released a statement following the tragedy. "We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight's game," the school said. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues."
School officials also stated that they are activating wellbeing services on campus. These resources are being made available to faculty, staff, and students who might be emotionally affected by the incident.
