Arteta Speaks Out

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists his conscience is clear following the news that his former club, Manchester City, breached Premier League financial rules. Arteta worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant at City for three years before taking the head coach job at Arsenal in 2019.

An independent commission recently found Manchester City guilty of breaking over 100 financial regulations between 2009 and 2018. City has since launched an appeal against the decision.

During a press conference at Arsenal's London Colney training ground, Arteta was asked directly if his conscience was clear regarding his time at the Etihad Stadium. He replied with a simple "Yes."

Respecting the Process

Arteta refused to share too many details about his thoughts on the situation. He explained that because the appeal process is still ongoing, it is difficult to express how he truly feels.

"The process has been going for various years," Arteta said. "That process is still not finished. So, it is very difficult to express how I feel, because it is not resolved." He added that he will speak with more clarity once a final decision is reached.

Despite the controversy surrounding Manchester City, Arteta still believes the Premier League is the best division in the world. When asked if the league's reputation had been damaged, he remained quiet, saying only that everyone must wait for a final resolution. He also declined to say whether he had spoken to Guardiola since the verdict.

Focusing on Arsenal

Arsenal are hoping to challenge Manchester City for the league title this season. City have started the campaign strongly, winning all five of their opening matches. Arteta insists his team is only focused on their own performances rather than City's off-field issues.

Arsenal are looking to bounce back this weekend after suffering a tough 3-0 defeat against Brighton before the international break. Arteta, who recently signed a new four-year contract to stay at Arsenal until 2030, admitted the squad is still hurting from that loss. He noted that the pain is still in the tummy and his players must use that lesson on the pitch.
