Injury Cloud Hangs Over Sunday's Victory

The New York Giants managed to pick up a 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but the result came with terrible news for the defense. Standout pass rusher Brian Burns is believed to have suffered a torn ACL.

Burns left the field with a knee injury during the fourth quarter of the game. After the final whistle, coach John Harbaugh spoke to reporters and explained that Burns would undergo an MRI to find out the full severity of the injury.

Burns Has Been an Elite and Durable Defender

Losing Burns takes away one of the top defensive weapons on the roster. Burns has been remarkably consistent and durable over his time in the league. Across his eight year career, he has racked up 71 sacks. He has not missed a single game since the 2020 season.

His production last season was among the best in football. Burns finished second in the NFL with 16.5 sacks, ending up just behind Myles Garrett. He came into Sunday's matchup with Tennessee playing through a low ankle sprain, and he had recorded four tackles through the first three games of the season.

Another Major Setback for the Giants

The potential loss of Burns adds to an already difficult injury situation for New York. The Giants were already dealing with a major loss on the offensive side of the ball with quarterback Jaxson Dart sidelined.

Dart was injured in Week 2 and underwent surgery on Friday to repair both the meniscus and the MCL in his left knee. The quarterback is set to miss at least the regular season. Now, the defense may have to move forward without its top pass rusher as well.
