Carragher Demands Multi Year Punishment For Manchester City
Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City should face a three to five year punishment if their appeal against financial rule breaks fails.

The Scale of the Offence
Manchester City are facing calls for a severe, multi year penalty following their recent financial rule breach ruling. An independent commission found the club guilty of breaking Premier League rules in a report released last week. City have appealed the decision.
The report stated that City inflated their revenue by more than £830 million, or 1.08 billion dollars, over a nine season period between 2009-10 and 2017-18. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the final sanctions must match the scale of the offences if City lose their appeal.
Carragher Demands Long Term Sanctions
Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate with Sky Bet, Carragher argued that a simple one season points deduction would not be enough. He said that if people talk about an 80 or 100 point penalty, that just gets a club relegated for one season before they return.
Carragher explained that players might put up with relegation for a single year. However, because the rule breaks went on for so long, he believes the punishment should span three to five years. According to Carragher, a longer ban would force players to move on.
A Hostile Trip to Anfield
Manchester City return to action this weekend with a massive game against Liverpool on Sunday. The two clubs have been major rivals for titles over the last fifteen years.
Former City defender and manager Stuart Pearce warned that Enzo Maresca's side can expect a very hostile atmosphere at Anfield. Pearce noted that the stadium will be red hot and electric. He said this environment must stimulate the opposition, but it also has to stimulate City against everyone else.
