Sanders Demands Better Play

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is using the upcoming bye week to evaluate his quarterbacks. The decision comes after the Buffaloes suffered a 29-7 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday night.

Colorado now has a 2-3 record, including 0-2 in the Big 12. Sanders made it clear that the quarterback position is the main issue holding the team back.

"That's the position that's somewhat disabling us and disarming us," Sanders said. "Somebody's got to step up and take hold of it and get it done."

Wilson Struggles in First Start

Isaac Wilson made his first start for Colorado on Saturday. The game started well with a touchdown drive of nine plays and 75 yards. However, the offense stalled after that opening drive. The Buffaloes did not score another point for the rest of the game.

Wilson finished the night completing 26 of 44 passes for 290 yards. He also threw three interceptions. His final interception of the night was caught in the end zone and returned for a touchdown by Texas Tech linebacker John Curry.

"I need to stop trying to be more than I am," Wilson said after the game. He blamed himself for the offense stalling, saying he did not make smart decisions.

Sanders Looks at All Three Options

Sanders plans to look at all three quarterback options before Colorado plays Utah on Oct. 17. Along with Wilson, the Buffaloes will evaluate Julian "JuJu" Lewis and Kaneal Sweetwyne.

Lewis started the season strong, throwing five touchdowns and no interceptions in wins over Georgia Tech and Weber State. He was benched against Baylor on Sept. 26 after throwing two interceptions in a loss to Northwestern.

Sweetwyne has played in two games this season. He has completed 8 of 12 passes for 42 yards.

Offensive Woes and Mistakes

Colorado actually outgained Texas Tech 375 to 315 in total yards. However, they could not turn those yards into points. After their first touchdown, their next 12 drives resulted in four interceptions, two missed field goals, an unsuccessful fake punt, three punts, and two turnovers on downs.

Penalties also hurt the Buffaloes, as they were flagged eight times for 84 yards. Colorado remains the most penalized team in the Big 12.

"We've been horrible," Sanders said about the offensive performance. "Don't sugarcoat it. We've been horrible. What did we have, seven points? You're not going to win."
