Adebawore secures major payday

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms on a fresh contract extension with defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore. The new deal keeps him locked in for two years and is worth $35 million overall. Negotiated by his agent Kenny Zuckerman of Priority Sports, the contract package includes a $13 million signing bonus along with $22.5 million in new money that runs through the 2027 season.

Indianapolis finalized this agreement after turning down trade interest from rival teams around the league. Other franchises had inquired about trading for the 25 year old defender, but the front office opted to keep him in town instead. Adebawore has earned the big payday by putting together a strong campaign on the field. He has already matched his previous career high by accumulating four sacks through the first eight games of the current season.

Production during a difficult season

Adebawore was originally drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. Since joining the team, he has steadily built up his production on the defensive line. Over his career so far, he has recorded a total of 10.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and 20 quarterback hits.

His extension comes at a time of major transition for the franchise. Indianapolis has experienced significant administrative and structural changes recently. The organization fired general manager Chris Ballard earlier this month after the team stumbled to a 2-6 start on the year.

Major changes continuing on the roster

With the poor start on the field, the franchise has begun a broad roster rebuild. The team has already moved multiple high profile players in major trades. Guard Quenton Nelson was dealt away to the Seattle Seahawks, while defensive tackle DeForest Buckner was traded to the San Francisco 49ers.

More roster moves could be on the horizon soon. Indianapolis remains actively involved in trade discussions with multiple teams concerning star running back Jonathan Taylor. In addition, wide receiver Josh Downs has requested a trade out of Indianapolis. Downs is currently serving as the top receiving target on the team because wide receiver Alec Pierce is placed on injured reserve.
