Tensions Flare in the Tunnel

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a tense moment after Thursday's 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As Prescott walked down the hallway to the locker room, an outside contractor yelled "embarrassing" at him.

Prescott looked at the worker, who quickly looked away before saying something else. "Don't cower away from the reaction that you're going to get," Prescott said. "If you're saying it to me, then say it to me. Don't go back on it."

The loss dropped the Cowboys to 2-3 on the season. It was only the sixth time in franchise history that the team has lost to an opponent with an 0-4 record or worse. It is also just the second time such a loss has happened at home, with the last occurrence happening in 1975 against the Green Bay Packers.

Struggles on Both Sides of the Ball

The Cowboys offense struggled to find any rhythm, scoring their lowest total of the season with 16 points. Prescott threw two interceptions on tipped passes, and KaVontae Turpin lost a fumble on a kickoff return. The team finished with just 50 rushing yards, their lowest total since they played the Buccaneers in Week 16 of 2024.

Dallas also struggled defensively, allowing 241 rushing yards. This included a run of 72 yards by Bucky Irving on the second play of the third quarter. The defense gave up 165 yards before contact, which is the most by any NFL team in a single game this season. They have now allowed more than 20 points in five straight games.

Despite the poor performance, owner Jerry Jones stated he still has confidence in defensive coordinator Christian Parker. Jones said it would be premature to make any changes to who calls the plays. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer noted that the team did not plan on being 2-3 but called the contractor's comment motivating.
