Offense slumps in Green Bay

The Dallas Cowboys dropped to a 2-4 record on the season after losing 23-13 to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Despite having a healthy offensive roster, Dallas has scored only 29 points across its last two games. That stretch includes a 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dallas was shut out in the first half for the first time since Week 9 of the 2021 season. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw two first half interceptions for the first time since Week 17 of the 2022 season. He finished 34 of 54 for 258 yards, averaging just 4.8 yards per throw.

Running game issues create pressure

Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the lack of a running game has made the offense a bit one sided. Dallas managed only 48 rushing yards on 15 carries against Green Bay. It was the fifth time in six games that the team failed to reach 100 rushing yards.

Prescott took a hit to the ribs during the first half from Zaire Franklin. He faced pressure on 21 of his 41 drop backs in the second half and was sacked once. Prescott stated after the game that he was sore but does not need extra testing.

History stacked against Dallas

The Cowboys returned every offensive starter this year, including Pro Bowl selections Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Tyler Smith, and Jake Ferguson. Even so, the deep passing game failed to connect. Prescott completed 15 of 29 throws to Lamb and Pickens, with both interceptions happening on throws to Lamb.

In the Super Bowl era, Dallas has never made the playoffs after starting a season 2-4. Guard Tyler Smith said after the game that the players must focus internally and fix their mistakes to get back on track.
