Diego Gómez Scores From 56 Yards In Brighton Blitz
Diego Gómez scored from 56 yards out as Brighton struck three times in ten minutes against Crystal Palace.

A strike from distance
Diego Gómez hit an astonishing goal on Sunday to help Brighton build an early lead against Crystal Palace. The Paraguay international won the ball back near the halfway line before firing a shot from 56 yards out. Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez was caught completely off his line as the ball sailed into the net.
It was the furthest a Premier League goal has been scored from since Wayne Rooney struck for Everton against West Ham almost nine years ago. The long distance strike opened the account for the forward for this season.
Fast start at home
The goal from Gómez put the Seagulls 2-0 up following an early own goal by Jaydee Canvot. Moments after the long shot went in, Yasin Ayari scored to make it 3-0 within the first 10 minutes of the match.
Brighton became just the ninth team in Premier League history to score three goals in the opening 10 minutes of a game. The record for the fastest three goals in a Premier League match is held jointly by Tottenham in the 1993 season against Oldham and Manchester City in the 2009 season against Burnley. Both of those teams reached three goals in the seventh minute.
High scoring Seagulls
That explosive first half push took Brighton to 21 goals for the season. That total stands as the highest goal tally in the Premier League so far this year.
A victory over Crystal Palace could move Brighton provisionally ahead of second place Arsenal. Arsenal are scheduled to play Nottingham Forest later on Sunday.
