Diego Gomez scores wonder goal from 55 yards as Brighton crush Palace
Diego Gomez scored a 55.7 yard goal in Brighton's 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace, putting him among the Premier League's top long range scorers.

A strike from distance
Diego Gomez scored a stunning long range goal during Brighton & Hove Albion's 5-0 victory against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. The Paraguay midfielder controlled the ball in the center circle, turned quickly, and noticed Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez off his line. Gomez immediately took aim and hit a shot from 55.7 yards out that flew straight into the net.
His goal is the furthest distance scored in the Premier League since Wayne Rooney hit a 63.4 yard shot for Everton against West Ham almost nine years ago.
Historical long range goals
The goal places Gomez second on the list of great Premier League long distance strikes. David Beckham holds the top spot for his goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon in 1996. Rooney takes third place for his 2017 effort for Everton against West Ham.
Maynor Figueroa sits fourth for his 65 yard free kick for Wigan against Stoke in 2009. Rooney also features at fifth for his 2014 goal for Manchester United against West Ham. Moises Caicedo holds sixth place after scoring a 50 yard shot from the center spot for Chelsea against Bournemouth in 2024.
Charlie Adam ranks seventh for Stoke City against Chelsea in 2015, while Luis Suarez is eighth for Liverpool against Norwich City in 2012. Jonjo Shelvey ranks ninth for Swansea against Aston Villa in 2014. Stiliyan Petrov is tenth for Aston Villa after scoring from the center circle in a 6-0 win over Derby County in 2008.
Xabi Alonso sits eleventh for Liverpool against Newcastle in 2006. Three goalkeepers complete the bottom of the rankings. Asmir Begovic scored from 101 yards for Stoke City against Southampton in 2013, which is the longest goal in Premier League history. Paul Robinson scored for Tottenham Hotspur against Watford from 95 yards in 2007, and Tim Howard scored for Everton against Bolton Wanderers in 2012.
