Incident on the field

Duke cornerback Kimari Robinson issued a public apology on Sunday night following an incident during Saturday's game against North Carolina. Duke dropped to 4-2 on the season after losing 24-20 to the Tar Heels.

During the contest, Duke player DaShawn Stone was lying on his back due to an injury. Two training staff members were actively tending to Stone on the field. A video of the moment went viral on Saturday.

In the video, Robinson was seen standing directly over Stone. A third staff member approached the group and attempted to move Robinson away so she could check on Stone. Robinson responded by forcibly swatting away her arm.

Robinson speaks out

Robinson is a redshirt junior cornerback and a regular starter for the Blue Devils. He stated that he checked on the staff member and apologized to her after Saturday's game.

He felt it was right to issue a public statement on X on Sunday night to address what happened. "I was completely wrong, and she did not deserve that," Robinson wrote.

He explained that Stone is like family to him and he was scared his teammate might be seriously hurt. However, Robinson noted that being worried does not excuse how he treated her. He stated that he should have controlled his emotions and did not. Robinson added that he was truly sorry for letting her, himself, and the program down, writing that he has to be better.
