Eagles Adjust Offensive Line After Lane Johnson Retirement
Philadelphia is handling major offensive line changes after Lane Johnson retired and Cam Jurgens was traded to Baltimore.

Sudden Changes on the Line
The Philadelphia Eagles face major changes on their offensive line ahead of their upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Veteran tackle Lane Johnson abruptly retired this past week. At the same time, the team traded center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens.
These quick moves leave the team young up front, but the roster decisions are far from finished. The team cut Andy Dalton on Friday due to a roster crunch caused by injuries elsewhere on the squad.
Handling the Salary Cap
Philadelphia plans to keep Johnson on the 53 man roster for the rest of the season rather than moving him to the reserve retired list right away. Holding his spot until after June 1 avoids a heavy salary cap penalty from hitting the team before 2028. It also leaves a spot open if Johnson decides to return.
Johnson received an option bonus of $21.7 million before the season started. He is expected to pay back several million dollars, though the exact amount is still being worked out by the NFLPA and the NFL management council. Johnson remains on the roster for the rest of his $1.3 million base salary.
Trade Strategy for Philadelphia
The Eagles traded Jurgens, a two time Pro Bowl center, along with a 2027 seventh round draft pick. In return, they received a 2027 fifth round pick and a 2028 second round pick from Baltimore. Teams across the league wondered if general manager Howie Roseman was starting a selloff, but those involved say the team still plans to win now.
Roseman could use the extra 2028 second round pick to trade for immediate help this season. Rival general managers have asked about trading for top skill players like Saquon Barkley, but moving him would contradict a team focused on winning. League teams may also call about guard Landon Dickerson once he returns from injured reserve.
