Falcons Ground Game Crushes Saints

The Atlanta Falcons made history on Monday night with a dominant 45-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Running back Bijan Robinson set the tone early, scoring a 59 yard touchdown on just his third play of the game. He finished the night with 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Robinson has now averaged 145.5 scrimmage yards per game in primetime, the most of any player since the 1970 merger with a minimum of five games.

He was not alone in the backfield. Brian Robinson Jr. added three rushing touchdowns of his own, becoming the first Falcons running back with three touchdowns in a game since 2016. Together, the duo averaged 3.7 yards before contact and broke 11 tackles. This performance made the Falcons the first team in NFL history to win consecutive road games in primetime by 20 or more points.

Penix Shines and Saints Struggle

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was highly efficient for Atlanta. Just two games into his return from a torn left ACL, he completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. He also helped the team convert four of eight third downs, which had been a weakness for him in the past.

On the other side, the Saints fell to a record of one win and three losses. Playing without starting linebacker Kaden Elliss and several defensive linemen, New Orleans gave up 207 rushing yards. Offensively, quarterback Tyler Shough completed 30 of 48 passes for one touchdown, but he was sacked twice and faced pressure on 35% of his snaps. The Saints also struggled with eight penalties and a missed field goal. Their slow starts continue to plague them, as New Orleans has scored just six points in the first quarter all season.
