Cox Speaks Out

Indiana Fever general manager Amber Cox defended the team's fanbase during her exit interview on Saturday morning. Cox stated that attacks on the fans have no basis in reality and must stop, particularly from members of the media who have never attended a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Cox acknowledged that every sports organization deals with occasional bad behavior. However, she emphasized that the Fever did not have a single fan pointed out by a player who violated the league's code of conduct this season. She stated that no fans were removed from a game.

On Court Incidents

The discussion around fan behavior intensified during Game 2 of the playoffs. Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson confronted a fan who stood and pointed at her. Wilson received a technical foul, and the fan was escorted out of the arena bowl but was later allowed to return. Arena security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct.

Earlier in the season, on August 6, two fans were escorted from their courtside seats during a game against the Aces. Jackie Young had complained to an official that they were chirping at her. Those fans were not ejected and were found not to have violated the code of conduct.

Players Disagree With GM

Not everyone agrees with the general manager's assessment. Former Fever player Brianna Turner, who is now with the Aces and serves as the treasurer of the players' union, disputed Cox's comments on social media. Turner called the statement unequivocally false and noted that players inside and outside the organization have repeatedly complained about the Fever fanbase.

Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent, also spoke about the difficulties of playing in Indiana. Mitchell set the single-season scoring and three-point records this year, but she revealed that she receives significant hate in her direct messages. Mitchell said that playing alongside Caitlin Clark brings a lot of eyes and extra flak to her teammates.
