Former Man United Boss Apologizes to Fan Who Refuses to Cut His Hair

Manchester United fan Frank Ilett has been growing his hair for a long time. He promised not to get a haircut until his favorite club wins five Premier League matches in a row. Now, a former United manager has apologized to him for the delay.

Ilett, known online as United Strand, ran into former United boss Ruben Amorim at the Portugal Football Summit this week. Amorim, who now manages AC Milan, recognized the fan and his famous long hair.

Writing on his Instagram account, which has 1.5 million followers, Ilett shared a photo of the encounter. He wrote that Amorim pointed at his hair and said, "sorry about that!" Ilett added that he still has love for the manager.

The Long Wait for a Trim

Ilett had his last haircut on October 5, 2024. Since then, Manchester United have failed to put together a five-game winning streak in the league. His haircut challenge is now nearing the two-year mark.

Amorim was sacked by United in January of this year, just 14 months into his three-year contract. Since then, Erik ten Hag and current manager Michael Carrick have also been unable to get the five straight wins needed to end Ilett's streak.

United came very close to the target early in Carrick's time in charge. The team secured consecutive wins against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham. However, a 1-1 draw against West Ham in the fifth match ruined the run and sent Ilett back to the start.

Raising Money for a Good Cause

This season has not brought United any closer to the five-match winning streak. The team has managed to win only seven points from a possible 15. In their final match before the international break, they needed a late goal from Matheus Cunha to secure a draw against Fulham.

While Ilett has to keep waiting for his trip to the barber, his long hair is serving a great purpose. The viral challenge is raising money for the Little Princess Trust. The charity uses donations to make wigs for children who have cancer.
