A Massive Blow for San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants have lost their biggest bat for the remainder of the year. Rafael Devers is done for the season and may require surgery to repair a core muscle injury.

The team placed the first baseman and designated hitter on the 60 day injured list on Sunday. Devers is scheduled to meet with Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia on Monday. If the doctor recommends a procedure, Devers will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

This is a massive loss for the Giants. Devers leads the team with 37 home runs and 98 RBIs this year.

Playing Through the Pain

According to the team, Devers fought through the injury for a large portion of the season. Despite the pain, he finished his year on a tear. He hit home runs in his final two games. Over his last 11 appearances, he racked up eight home runs and 20 RBIs.

Devers is in the third year of a 10 year contract worth 313.5 million dollars. San Francisco acquired him from Boston back in June 2025.

He started the year slowly, batting just .207 with two home runs through April. However, he turned things around to raise his season average to .258. Over his 10 seasons in the major leagues, Devers has a career .274 batting average and 272 home runs.

To fill his spot on the roster, the Giants selected the contract of outfielder Scott Bandura from Triple A Sacramento.
