Jets Prepare for Possible Connor Hellebuyck Return
Connor Hellebuyck is expected to finish his suspension this week, leaving the Winnipeg Jets bracing for his potential return.

Hellebuyck Suspension Coming to an End
Winnipeg Jets players are getting ready for difficult discussions if Connor Hellebuyck returns to the squad next week. The 33 year old goalie was suspended after failing to attend training camp following his trade request. Last month, Hellebuyck explained in a statement that moving on was the best path forward for him and his family.
His disciplinary suspension is expected to wrap up on Friday. Under the league collective bargaining agreement, unexcused camp absences bring a suspension of reasonable length. Hellebuyck has forfeited over $700,000 in pay during the dispute, but he will begin collecting salary again once Friday arrives. He has not played an NHL game since April 13, having won Olympic gold with the United States earlier this year.
Locker Room Reaction and Trade Stalemate
Team captain Adam Lowry admitted there will be some hard talks if the three time Vezina Trophy winner walks back into the dressing room. Lowry and Hellebuyck have been teammates for the goalie's entire 12 year NHL career. Lowry noted after a 3-2 loss to Carolina that while he does not love how the situation has dragged on, the roster will handle things together.
The Jets currently hold four wins, two losses, and two overtime losses through eight games. Lowry said the team remains committed to chasing a Stanley Cup, though he acknowledged that Hellebuyck is a big missing piece in the lineup. Winger Kyle Connor chose not to comment on Saturday, though he previously described the trade demand as heartbreaking. Head coach Scott Arniel stated that he is focused strictly on the 23 players currently available to play.
Hellebuyck has five years remaining on the seven year, $59.5 million extension he signed in 2023. The contract carries a full no movement clause for this season before shifting to a modified list next summer. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said no doors are closed, leaving options open as Carolina and Buffalo linger as possible landing spots.
