McMillan and Young Spark Panthers to Victory Over Lions
Tetairoa McMillan caught 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns as the Carolina Panthers beat the Detroit Lions 32-36.

McMillan Shines in Big Win
The Carolina Panthers secured a 32-36 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night, bringing their season record to 2-2. Wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan was the star of the night, catching 14 passes for 192 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
Quarterback Bryce Young threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns during the game. He led the offense on six scoring drives. The home crowd cheered for Young, chanting "MVP!" during the fourth quarter. McMillan accounted for 43.1% of the team's net offense.
With Jalen Coker out with a quad injury and Xavier Legette on injured reserve with a knee injury, McMillan had to step up. He set new career highs across the board, receiving 16 targets during the game.
Chemistry Overcomes Tough Prep
The connection between Young and McMillan was strong on Sunday, despite a difficult week of preparation. Panthers coach Dave Canales noted that the duo did not have a great week of practice. They had some misses and had to talk through their issues.
The work paid off on game day. Young expressed his deep trust in the receiver after the game, noting that they have a lot of practice repetitions together from the past two years.
Young now has nine passing touchdowns through four games, which is a new franchise record. Offensive coordinator Brad Idzik has helped lead the team to 22 scoring drives over the first four games. That is the most for the Panthers since the 2000 season. McMillan praised Idzik for his communication and for asking players for their opinions.
Lions React to the Performance
The Detroit Lions knew McMillan would be a major target, especially with Carolina's other injuries. Lions coach Dan Campbell said they expected the Panthers to try to get the ball to McMillan. He noted that many of those plays were run pass options and quick strikes early in the game.
McMillan's big night put him in elite company. He became only the second player in Panthers history to record at least 175 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a single game. The only other player to achieve this was Steve Smith Sr. in 2011 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Tight end Tommy Tremble said it was fun to see McMillan show his talent on a national stage. McMillan is now on pace to easily beat his rookie season totals of 70 catches and 1,014 yards.
