Mets Star Francisco Lindor Joins Elite Shortstop Club With 300th Homer

Francisco Lindor made history on Sunday in the final game of the regular season. The New York Mets shortstop hit his 300th career home run during the second inning of the season finale against the Washington Nationals.

The historic moment came when Lindor faced Washington left hander DJ Herz. Lindor connected with a 92.9 mph fastball from Herz and sent it deep into the stands. The ball traveled 409 feet before landing in the left field seats.

This big hit was Lindor's 21st home run of the season. It was also his first home run in over two weeks, with his last home runs coming when he hit two on September 12.

Joining Elite Company

By reaching this milestone, Lindor entered a very exclusive club. He is now only the third primary shortstop in major league history to hit 300 career home runs. The only other primary shortstops to reach this mark are Cal Ripken Jr. and Miguel Tejada.

The five time All Star has put together a stellar career. He spent his first six seasons playing for Cleveland before moving to New York. Since the Mets acquired him before the 2021 season, Lindor has hit 162 home runs for the franchise.

A Historic Season

Lindor is the 172nd player in baseball history to reach the 300 home run milestone. He is also the seventh player to reach the mark this season.

Other players who reached the 300 home run mark this year include Baltimore's Pete Alonso, Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani, Atlanta's Matt Olson, Pittsburgh's Marcell Ozuna and Toronto's George Springer. Lindor now joins this list of star players with his Sunday afternoon blast.
