Mike Breen Apologizes After LeBron James Refutes Sixers Practice Story
Broadcaster Mike Breen apologized for sharing a story about LeBron James calling out Joel Embiid, which James quickly called a lie.

The Rumor and the Apology
Broadcaster Mike Breen has apologized for a story he told on air about Philadelphia 76ers teammates LeBron James and Joel Embiid. During Monday's preseason game, Breen shared a rumor that Embiid arrived late to practice and James called him out for it.
James quickly shut down the story on Instagram, writing that Embiid has not been late and calling the story a lie. Breen apologized on Wednesday, saying he believed James and felt terrible for putting the focus on Embiid.
Breen explained that he only wanted to highlight James' leadership and team accountability. He said the story came from someone he trusted, but he should have realized that involving Embiid would turn it into a major talking point.
Coach Nick Nurse Responds
Sixers coach Nick Nurse said he only heard about the drama after Wednesday's practice. He defended Embiid, saying the superstar center has been excellent, has worked hard, and has been playing great. Nurse was surprised the story came out at all.
Nurse said the team talked about managing outside noise, and his main focus is simply getting his players ready to play. Neither James, Embiid, nor Tyrese Maxey played in Monday's 120-97 win over the Knicks.
The Sixers are also dealing with roster adjustments. Backup center Ariel Hukporti underwent season-ending Achilles surgery on Tuesday. Nurse plans to try out small-ball options like James and Dean Wade at backup center, alongside traditional center Adem Bona, who is recovering from a sprained foot.
