Pregame Ceremony Fall

A military service member was taken to a local hospital on Saturday after falling from the rafters of the Alamodome. The incident happened during a pregame demonstration before the football game between UTSA and Navy.

The demonstration was organized as part of UTSA's annual Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans game. Four officers were scheduled to rappel down to the field about 15 minutes before kickoff. During the descent, one officer appeared to lose control, sliding rapidly down the line and crashing to the turf.

Medical Response and Official Statement

Medical personnel rushed onto the field immediately to treat the fallen officer. The service member was placed on a stretcher and removed from the stadium to receive care at a nearby hospital.

A university spokesperson confirmed that the rappel team came from Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio Camp Bullis. Officials have not shared the officer's identity or provided details on the extent of the injuries.

UTSA released a statement addressing the incident. "We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight's game," UTSA said in a statement. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues."

Kickoff Delay and Support Services

The football game was still played as scheduled, though kickoff was delayed by 10 minutes while emergency responders handled the situation.

UTSA announced that it is activating well being services. These support programs are being made available for faculty, staff, and students who might be emotionally affected by what happened.
