Brewers Answer Every Dodgers Push

The Milwaukee Brewers took complete control of their series on Monday. Behind a 12 hit attack that featured 10 singles, Milwaukee ground out a 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers to grab a 2-0 series lead.

The Brewers improved to 5-1 this postseason. After falling behind three separate times early in the game, Milwaukee responded to every challenge. William Contreras tied the score in the fifth inning with a 436 foot home run off Kris Bubic. An inning later, Contreras struck again with an RBI single off Brock Stewart to put Milwaukee ahead for good. Brice Turang and Jake Bauers added run scoring singles in the eighth inning to extend the lead.

Bullpen Shuts Down Los Angeles

Once Milwaukee grabbed the lead, their bullpen shut down the Los Angeles offense. Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe, and Aaron Ashby combined to retire the final 15 Dodgers batters in order.

Los Angeles struggled all night at the plate, managing only three hits. They went 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position, falling to 2 for 26 in those spots during this postseason. Starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto could not halt the slide. He lasted only 2 2/3 innings, his shortest postseason start, after walking Bauers to load the bases and allowing a two run single to Christian Yelich. Brewers starter Logan Henderson also had a rocky outing, giving up four runs and making two throwing errors over four innings before the relievers took over.

What it means for the next game

The series now moves to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday. Robert Gasser is expected to start for the Brewers. Los Angeles has not announced its starting pitcher.
