Parma have parted ways with head coach Carlos Cuesta after winning just one of their opening five league matches this season.

Parma have decided to part ways with head coach Carlos Cuesta. The decision came on Sunday after a difficult start to the Serie A season. Parma have managed to win only one of their first five league matches.
The club released a statement explaining that Cuesta has been relieved of his duty. They stated that after an internal discussion, both parties agreed that the conditions to continue their working relationship were not being met. The club said it was a mutual agreement.
Parma have not named a replacement for Cuesta yet. While the team managed to secure a victory against Genoa last weekend, they have only collected four points from their opening five games.
A Rapid Rise in Coaching
Cuesta made history when Parma appointed him in June 2025. At just 29 years old, he became the youngest manager in the top five European leagues. He was also the youngest manager in Serie A in almost a hundred years.
Before taking the job at Parma, Cuesta spent five years working as an assistant to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. He chose to focus on coaching at a very young age rather than pursuing a playing career.
His coaching career started with the youth teams at Atlético Madrid. After four years there, he traveled across Europe to study different coaching methods. During this time, he met Arteta, who was working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Cuesta then spent two years with the Juventus youth academy before moving to Arsenal in 2020.
Looking Ahead for Parma
Cuesta helped Parma finish in 13th place last season. However, the club decided a change was needed after their poor start to the current campaign.
This is already the third coaching change in Serie A this season. Paolo Vanoli recently replaced Fabio Grosso at Fiorentina. In another move, Raffaele Palladino took over from Domenico Tedesco at Bologna.
Parma now have some time to search for a new manager during the international break. Their next match is a difficult trip to face Serie A champions Inter Milan on October 10.
