Pochettino Has 'Fantastic Problem' After Young USMNT Stars Sink Mexico
Mauricio Pochettino praised his young players after teenagers Cavan Sullivan and Julian Hall led the USMNT to a 3-0 victory over rivals Mexico.

Teenagers Lead the Charge
The United States men's national team secured a dominant 3-0 victory over rivals Mexico on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona. Teenagers Julian Hall and Cavan Sullivan stole the spotlight, proving that the future of American soccer is already here.
The win left head coach Mauricio Pochettino with what he called "a fantastic problem to have" as he looks at the depth of talent in his squad.
The match did not start easily for the Americans. Mexico controlled the early play and forced the U.S. team to defend deep. However, the USMNT broke the deadlock in the 28th minute against the run of play. Gio Reyna sent in a low cross that Mexico goalkeeper Raúl Rangel spilled. Hall, who is 18, was there to convert from close range. With the goal, Hall became just the third player in USMNT history to score in each of his first three appearances.
History Made in Glendale
The U.S. team grew into the game during the second half. In the 62nd minute, 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan made history. He intercepted a poor pass from Rangel and chipped the ball into the net from 35 yards out. The goal made Sullivan the youngest scorer in the history of the USMNT.
Things got worse for Mexico in the 67th minute. Mateo Chávez received a red card following a physical altercation with American midfielder Sebastian Berhalter.
With a man advantage, the U.S. wrapped up the match in the 84th minute. Malik Tillman intercepted another poor pass from the Mexican defense and fired it home to make it 3-0.
Managing the Young Talents
Pochettino was pleased with how his team handled the early pressure from Mexico. He noted that the first half was a great opportunity for the team to suffer together when things were not going according to plan.
The coach had special praise for Sullivan, highlighting his work ethic on both sides of the ball. Pochettino described the teenager as a warrior who has a great balance in and out of possession. He noted that finding a player with that level of quality who also chases opponents to recover the ball is unbelievable.
Looking ahead, Pochettino emphasized the importance of guiding these young players carefully. He stated that the coaching staff needs to protect and support them to ensure this talented group grows in the right direction.
