Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Myles Garrett is looking at a longer recovery than initially hoped. Following knee surgery, the star defender has been given a timeline of roughly six weeks before he can get back on the field. This means Garrett might not return to action until early November.
The Rams placed Garrett on injured reserve earlier this month. He struggled with injury during the team's season opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. While he is eligible to return after four games, which would be a Week 6 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on October 18, this new timeline suggests a longer wait. He could now miss games against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 and the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8.
No Rush to Return
Garrett is determined to beat the six week estimate. However, the Rams plan to be careful with their star acquisition. The team hopes the arthroscopic surgery, which was done to clean out his knee, will relieve his discomfort and stop the swelling.
Head coach Sean McVay has avoided setting an exact date for Garrett to play again. McVay praised the defender's recovery speed, calling him "Wolverine, healing fast," but he also made it clear that the team is "not going to rush him back." Garrett previously missed most of training camp because of swelling in his knee.
High Stakes After Blockbuster Trade
The Rams have a lot invested in Garrett's health. To land the five time All Pro, Los Angeles sent two time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a first round selection in 2027, to the Cleveland Browns.
Garrett is coming off a historic season where he set the NFL single season sack record with 23 sacks for the Browns. The Rams will need him at full strength if they want to get the most out of their massive trade. For now, the team will have to wait until at least November to see their star defender back on the field.
