Dahlin departs with upper body injury

Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin did not finish Monday night against the Florida Panthers. The team ruled him out for the rest of the game after he suffered an upper body injury in the second period. Buffalo did not provide extra details on his condition.

Dahlin had put Buffalo on the board earlier in the contest. He scored his second goal of the season during a power play at 15:55 of the first period. His night ended shortly into the next frame. His final shift lasted just 18 seconds, wrapping up at 3:44 of the second period during another Buffalo power play. Dahlin took a shot from the slot after a faceoff in Florida territory and dropped down to one knee. He collected the rebound along the boards, gave the puck away, and headed straight to the bench.

Panthers goalie Markstrom exits after first period

The Panthers had their own injury trouble in net. Starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom did not come back for the start of the second period. Florida replaced him with Akira Schmid. The Panthers did not give an immediate update on the status of their veteran netminder.

Markstrom had a difficult first period before exiting. He gave up two goals on nine shots across the opening 20 minutes of play. Florida brought in the 36 year old goalie in a trade with New Jersey to serve as their starter. The team made that move after failing to re sign Sergei Bobrovsky, who left Florida in free agency to join Toronto.
