A Big Win at Tropicana Field

The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 on Monday night in Game 6 of the ALCS. A crowd of 40,230 fans filled Tropicana Field as Tampa Bay sealed a trip to the 122nd World Series.

Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz provided the winning margin with late two run home runs. Both players came to Tampa Bay through trades with Cleveland. In the seventh inning, Caminero hit a two run shot off Cleveland closer Cade Smith. Smith had thrown 884 splitters in his big league career without giving up a home run, but the 885th clanged off the left field foul pole.

Caminero celebrated by pointing at former Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena in the stands. Former Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow was also at the stadium to watch.

Overcoming Setbacks on the Field

Before the ninth inning, pitcher Shane McClanahan told Díaz he would hit a home run. McClanahan, who is out for the postseason with left forearm tightness, saw his prediction come true moments later.

The victory capped off a wild stretch for Tampa Bay. Hurricane Milton tore the roof off Tropicana Field, forcing the team to find a temporary home for the 2025 season. The team also lost franchise player Wander Franco.

Despite those challenges, president of baseball operations Erik Neander built a winning roster. August trade acquisition Freddy Peralta pitched 5 1/3 innings in Game 6 and earned ALCS MVP honors. The Rays played 54 innings of error free baseball during the series. Now they prepare to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series.
