Stewart and Peak Cleared to Play

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer confirmed that star edge rusher Dylan Stewart and offensive lineman Jacarrius Peak will play against Mississippi State on Saturday. Both players had previously been listed as probable on the SEC availability report leading up to the game, but coach Beamer noted that neither player will start.

Stewart has been slowly working his way back to full availability after dealing with a back injury from last year. He was held out of action during South Carolina's first two games of the season, which were lopsided victories over Kent State and Towson.

Background on the Gamecocks Duo

Stewart is widely considered one of the top draft eligible defensive prospects in college football today. Over his past two seasons with the Gamecocks, the former freshman All American and All SEC selection produced 11 sacks while putting pressure on opposing offenses.

Peak provides a welcome addition to the offensive line unit. He arrived in Columbia as a top offensive lineman in the transfer portal this past offseason following an honorable mention All ACC stint at NC State. Peak has not played yet this season because of a knee injury suffered in February shortly after joining the team.

What it means for the next game

Getting both Dylan Stewart and Jacarrius Peak back in uniform gives South Carolina extra talent and depth on both sides of the ball for Saturday's contest. Even in limited roles off the bench, their presence on the field is a positive development for the team moving forward.
