Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a knee injury late in the first quarter of Monday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers. The medical team placed an air cast on his left leg before wheeling him off the field on a cart. Washington ruled him out for the rest of the game soon after.

The injury happened with 2:16 remaining in the opening quarter on a third and 9 play. McLaurin was running a route near the Washington sideline when his left leg appeared to buckle as he made his cut. Quarterback Jayden Daniels was sacked on the same play.

Impact on the Offense

Losing McLaurin hurts the Washington passing attack immediately. Before going down, he helped set up the team's first points of the night against San Francisco. He caught a 27 yard pass on Washington's opening drive, which led directly to a field goal.

The 31 year old wideout entered the matchup leading the team with 230 receiving yards. He also ranked second on the roster with 15 receptions on the season. His departure leaves the offense without its most productive receiver for the rest of the night against the 49ers defense.

Recent Battles With Injuries

This is not the first physical setback McLaurin has dealt with this year. He missed Washington's Week 4 game against Indianapolis after injuring a hamstring two days before that contest. He managed to return the following week, but this knee problem forced him out after just one quarter of play.

Injuries have become an unfamiliar hurdle for the veteran receiver over the past two seasons. McLaurin missed seven games in 2025, which ended an impressive streak of 72 consecutive games played. Prior to that 2025 season, he was consistently productive year after year, recording five consecutive 1,000 yard seasons from 2020 through 2024.
