Tyrese Haliburton Return Brings New Energy to Indiana Pacers
Tyrese Haliburton returned to action after missing 16 months with an Achilles injury. The Indiana Pacers guard is ready to lead his team again.

Back on the Floor in Iowa
Tyrese Haliburton returned to action on Oct. 7 after missing nearly 16 months with a torn right Achilles. He suffered the injury in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. His return took place in a preseason opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Ames, Iowa, at his alma mater, Iowa State University.
Students lined up the night before to enter the arena and get yellow shirts with his face on them. Haliburton played 16 minutes in the game, ending with seven points and six assists to help Indiana win 123-112.
On his first play, an anxious Haliburton threw a pass out of bounds to Andrew Nembhard. He recovered on the next play, running a two on one with Pascal Siakam and scoring on a 15 foot jumper. Haliburton joked after his first break that he was tired, but he was happy to be playing basketball again.
Overcoming Rehab Setbacks
Haliburton had a hard road back to full health. During his absence in the 2025-26 season, the Pacers struggled and won just 19 games. He also dealt with a case of shingles during his rehab. The illness made him gain 30 pounds and caused severe face swelling, forcing him away from the team because it was contagious.
Despite the physical setbacks, Haliburton spent time giving back to the community. He visited kidney transplant recipients at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital and hosted a charity softball game at Victory Field. General manager Chad Buchanan noted that Haliburton always puts team needs first.
Haliburton stated that his goal remains winning a championship. Before his injury, he led Indiana on a strong postseason run, making big shots in every round of the 2025 playoffs.
