Rock band booked for holiday clash

The NFL announced on Tuesday that U2 will play the halftime show during the first Thanksgiving Eve game. The matchup features the Green Bay Packers taking on the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 25. The broadcast will air live on Netflix.

The concert will happen at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. That venue is also scheduled to host Super Bowl LXI, which has not named a halftime performer yet.

Holiday traditions and star power

Netflix has made big musical performances a priority for holiday NFL dates. The streaming service featured Beyoncé on Christmas Day in 2024 and Snoop Dogg in 2025.

Thanksgiving games have delivered plenty of memorable moments over the years. Dolly Parton performed in a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader outfit in 2023. Mariah Carey was carried onto the field by musclemen in Detroit back in 2005. In 2024, Shaboozey wore a Detroit Lions jacket during his show.

U2 prepares new music and tour

This is not the first major football performance for U2. The band played the Super Bowl XXXVI halftime show in 2002, several months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. During that set, lead singer Bono wore a jacket with an American flag lining, and the group played Beautiful Day, MLK, and Where the Streets Have No Name.

The upcoming Thanksgiving Eve appearance comes as the band releases its sixteenth studio album, Carnaval de Luz, on Nov. 13. Three singles from the project are already out, including Street of Dreams, Silencio, and The Greatest Show on Earth. The band also plans to launch a world tour in 2027.
