Kompany defends City legacy

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has spoken out following the news that his old club was found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League financial rules. Despite the verdict, the current Bayern Munich boss says he is still proud of what he achieved during his time in Manchester.

Kompany spent more than a decade with City between 2008 and 2019. During that highly successful period, he lifted the Premier League trophy four times. He also won the FA Cup twice and the League Cup four times.

The financial breaches explained

An independent commission found that Manchester City broke financial rules across nine seasons, from 2009/10 to 2017/18. This period covers three of the Premier League titles that Kompany won with the club.

However, the former defender insists that the players had nothing to do with the off-field issues. He explained that as a player, you are simply not a part of those matters.

Focus shifts to Bayern Munich

Speaking about his time at the club, Kompany said, "I played 11 years for the club. I've loved all of the years I played for the club and everything we achieved and done on the pitch, that's something I'm really proud of."

Now working as the head coach of Bayern Munich, Kompany stated he is not occupied with the topic. Instead, he is focused on preparing his team for their upcoming games.
