Bautista Returns to the Bullpen

The Baltimore Orioles are getting a major boost to their bullpen. Reliever Félix Bautista has been activated from the 60 day injured list, marking his return 14 months after his last major league appearance. Bautista underwent right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum and a torn rotator cuff, which cut his 2025 season short. Before that, he missed the end of 2023 and all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery.

During his rehab assignment in the minor leagues, Bautista posted a 2.35 ERA over nine games. "He is as close to full go as he could be," manager Craig Albernaz said. The team will try to manage his workload carefully, but his presence is a major addition as the Orioles push through the final stretch of the season.

Roster Moves and Mancini's Retirement

To make room on the roster, the Orioles optioned pitcher Cade Povich and outfielder Heston Kjerstad to Triple-A Norfolk. Outfielder Christian Franklin was activated from the 10 day injured list, while Tyler O'Neill was transferred to the 60 day injured list. Additionally, team president Mike Elias announced that manager Craig Albernaz will return for the 2027 season. Baltimore currently holds a 75-79 record and sits three games out of an American League wild card spot.

In a sentimental move, former fan favorite Trey Mancini signed a one day contract to retire as an Oriole. Mancini spent the majority of his eight year big league career in Baltimore, where he hit four 20 homer seasons. He also inspired fans by overcoming a colon cancer diagnosis in 2020 to win the AL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2021. Mancini, who later won a World Series with Houston, said he wanted to "end my career on my terms."
