Bill Parcells and Jacoby Brissett: A Football Bond That Goes Beyond the Game

A bond built over decades

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett has a unique advisor in his corner. Twice a year since high school, the 33 year old quarterback has met with Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells. They used to meet at a sports grill in Florida for what they called Board of Directors meetings, alongside Brissett's friend Abe Elam.

The relationship began nearly 20 years ago. Parcells started watching Brissett practice at William T. Dwyer High School in Florida. At the time, Brissett actually hated football and wanted to play basketball. But Parcells saw something in him.

"I had three daughters; he's like a son," Parcells said. The legendary coach, who turned 85 in August, has guided Brissett through his 11 year NFL career.

Lessons on and off the field

Parcells has helped Brissett with football, professionalism, and finances. Even during the offseason, Parcells asks for workout videos and reminds Brissett to save his money.

Their bond is built on hard work. When Brissett was preparing for the 2016 NFL combine, a 75 year old Parcells got on his knees in the mud to snap the ball to him in the rain.

Brissett recently signed a contract with 15.5 million dollars guaranteed, which can reach 21 million dollars with incentives. He credits his long career to Parcells. Brissett admitted that without the legendary coach, he would probably be working a regular job.
