BYU Star Running Back LJ Martin Set to Play Against Utah
BYU running back LJ Martin is returning from an ankle injury to play against rival Utah.

Martin Returns for Rivalry Matchup
BYU is getting a massive boost for its rivalry game against third ranked Utah. Star running back LJ Martin will play on Saturday after sitting out since early October with an ankle injury.
Martin was officially listed as questionable on the initial Big 12 availability report released Friday night. However, reports indicate that the reigning conference Offensive Player of the Year plans to take the field. His playing time might be limited, as the team will decide how much he plays after pregame warmups and as the action progresses.
How BYU Handled His Absence
The star senior has been sidelined since Oct. 3, when he suffered the ankle injury during a 17-10 victory over TCU. At the time of the injury, expectations were that he would miss four to six weeks.
BYU managed well during his absence, building a 3-1 record over the past month. Running backs Sione Moa and Preston Rex handled most of the rushing duties to keep the offense moving forward.
Getting Martin back gives the team a proven offensive weapon. The 6 foot 2, 225 pound senior rushed for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025. That performance helped the Cougars win 12 games and advance to the Big 12 championship game. Before his injury this season, Martin had already accumulated 344 rushing yards and three touchdowns while averaging 7.8 yards per carry.
