Mid-Game Exit

Colorado State defensive coordinator Tyson Summers is no longer with the football program. The decision came after a bizarre sequence of events during Saturday's game against Oregon State in Fort Collins.

During the first half of the matchup, Rams head coach Jim Mora took away Summers' play-calling duties. Shortly after, Summers disappeared from the sideline and was nowhere to be found.

Mora clarified that he did not order his assistant to depart. He said Summers made the decision on his own to leave the field.

Mora Makes It Permanent

The game ended in a 56-26 loss for Colorado State. Immediately after the defeat, Mora announced that Summers was officially gone.

"That is a permanent move that was made following tonight's game," Mora said.

Mora, who is in his first year leading the Rams, explained the situation to reporters. He stated that telling Summers to leave the sideline was not something he would ever consider.

Instead, the assistant left on his own. "He made the decision on his own to leave the field," Mora said, "and he is no longer with the program."

Defensive Woes Mount

The Rams have struggled heavily on defense this season. The loss to Oregon State comes just one week after Colorado State suffered a 59-45 defeat against UTSA.

With Saturday's result, Colorado State falls to a 2-3 record. The team has given up 193 points over their first five games. That is an average of 38.6 points allowed per game.

Summers has a coaching career of more than 20 years with previous stops at Florida, Georgia, and Colorado. He served as the interim head coach for the Rams last season for the final five games after Jay Norvell was let go. Mora chose to keep him on staff after being hired from UConn to turn around the Rams, but that relationship has now ended.
