De'Von Achane Leaves Game Against Chiefs With Knee Injury

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering a knee injury on the team's opening drive. Achane took his third carry of the game 11 yards around the left end before being tackled awkwardly by Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman.

The Pro Bowl running back was slow to get up after the play. He eventually walked to the blue medical tent under his own power. After a few minutes inside the tent, he was taken to the locker room for further testing. Achane returned to the sideline after halftime without his helmet or shoulder pads, and the team officially ruled him out.

Backfield Depth Tested

Achane's injury leaves the Dolphins very thin at the running back position. Miami entered the game with only two active running backs because rookie Jaylen Wright was inactive due to a stinger.

With Achane sidelined, Ollie Gordon II took over the primary rushing duties. The running back, who is in his second year, made an immediate impact. He scored his first touchdown of the season shortly after Achane left the game.

Durability and Workload

This is not the first time Achane has dealt with knee issues. The third round pick from the 2023 draft missed five games during his rookie season with a knee injury. However, the running back, who is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 195 pounds, has been largely durable. He missed only two games over the past two seasons combined, despite recording 586 touches in that span.

Achane is coming off a massive 2025 season where he gained 1,838 yards from scrimmage and scored 12 touchdowns. His 2026 campaign started a bit slower, with 159 scrimmage yards on 38 touches over the first two weeks of the season.

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley joked during the offseason that Achane could get 40 touches a week. Achane recently said he does not complain about his workload. "I've never been that type of player to go to somebody and tell them what to do," Achane said this week.
