The Secret Hobby

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has revealed a surprising personal hobby. In a YouTube video released on Wednesday, Tomlin shared a massive Minecraft city that he has been building for more than 12 years.

Tomlin first got interested in the game after watching his children play it when they were in middle school. He was drawn to the creative mode because it allowed him to build with unlimited resources. While his kids eventually lost interest as they grew older, Tomlin kept building. He admitted that his own participation actually increased over the years. He said he had different levels of fixation on the project at different times of the year.

Inside the Digital City

The Super Bowl winning coach designed his city with densely populated buildings around a body of water. His first project was a boutique hotel that has therapy rooms and glass ceilings. He also built high rise apartments with aquariums on every floor.

Tomlin paid close attention to small details, even making sure to include public restrooms in his facilities. One of his favorite builds is a rooftop penthouse with a Trump Tower sign. A caption on the video clarified that the build was from 2015 and was not a political endorsement.

Tomlin called the building process therapeutic and described it as mindless entertainment. He explained that he does not watch much television, and the game helped him detach from the pressures of his career. Tomlin coached the Steelers for 19 seasons before stepping down on January 13, 2025. He now works as an analyst for NBC Sports.
