Hoosiers survive late regulation chaos

Fourth ranked Indiana avoided a major upset on Saturday, beating Minnesota 23-16 in overtime in Bloomington. The Hoosiers needed extra time for the second straight week after winning 13-6 at Michigan last week. Indiana now stands at 8-1 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten play as it tries to defend its national title.

Minnesota took a 16-13 lead with just 19 seconds left in regulation when Luke Drzewiecki kicked a career long 60 yard field goal. Indiana answered immediately. Charlie Becker caught a 33 yard pass to set up Paddy McAteer, who hit a career long 60 yard field goal as time expired to force overtime.

Quarterback change sparks second half

Indiana pulled starting quarterback Josh Hoover at halftime. Hoover struggled through the first two quarters, completing 8 of 19 passes for 119 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He was pulled after taking a hard hit on his second interception of the season.

Grant Wilson took over at quarterback for the second half. Wilson completed 9 of 17 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. That score arrived on the first play of overtime, when Wilson threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to Becker. Indiana then stopped Minnesota on defense to close out the win. Becker finished with eight catches for 149 yards and the winning touchdown.

Gophers fall short after late reviews

Two late replay reviews altered the final minutes of regulation. One review erased a go ahead touchdown pass, while another overturned an Indiana interception deep in Minnesota territory. Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey went 20 of 37 for 120 yards and one touchdown. Javon Tracy added seven receptions for 40 yards.

The loss dropped the Golden Gophers to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Minnesota fell to 0-13 all time against defending national champions. The program has not beaten Top 25 opponents in back to back weeks since 1956.
