Orioles Decline 2027 Option for Outfielder Luis Robert Jr
Baltimore turned down a $20 million club option on Luis Robert Jr. for 2027 after the outfielder appeared in just three games for the team.

Option Turned Down
The Baltimore Orioles have officially decided not to pick up the $20 million club option for outfielder Luis Robert Jr. for the 2027 season. The move clarifies his contract situation following a very brief time with the franchise.
Baltimore acquired Robert after claiming him off waivers from the New York Mets on Aug. 31. By making that move, the Orioles assumed a financial obligation of roughly $4.9 million from the Mets. That figure included the remainder of his salary for the current season as well as a $2 million buyout for the 2027 option.
Struggles and Injuries
Robert ended up playing only three games in an Orioles uniform. Soon after making his debut, hamstring issues sent him directly to the injured list.
The outfielder has struggled to regain the strong form he displayed in 2023 when he was named an All Star. During the course of this current season, Robert appeared in 61 total games. He recorded a .221 batting average while hitting 11 home runs and driving in 26 runs.
Recent Trades and History
Robert has moved between a few teams over the past year. The Chicago White Sox previously exercised his $20 million option for the 2026 season. After picking up that option, Chicago traded him to the Mets during the last offseason. The Mets later put him on waivers before Baltimore picked him up.
Additional Roster Moves
Alongside the decision on Robert, Baltimore announced several other roster moves on Saturday. Right handed pitcher Albert Suarez and infielder Jose Barrero both cleared waivers and elected to enter free agency.
In addition, right handed pitcher Codi Heuer accepted an outright assignment to Triple A Norfolk. Right handed pitcher Colin Selby was also assigned to the Triple A Norfolk club.
