Early exit leads to missed time

Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren will be out for at least two weeks after suffering a right hamstring strain. The team officially announced the injury news on Sunday.

Duren sustained the strain during the first half of Friday's victory over the Miami Heat. He was able to play for only 10 minutes in that game before he had to leave the court and did not return.

Big contract after summer standoff

The setback comes shortly after Duren signed a massive five year contract extension worth $200 million earlier this month. That agreement wrapped up a long offseason standoff between Duren and the team.

Because of the contract negotiations, Duren missed the team's media day and stayed away from the first few practices of training camp. Once the deal was finalized, he returned to action and posted a strong opening performance, scoring 22 points and grabbing nine rebounds in Detroit's season opening win against the Boston Celtics.

A look back at recent performances

Duren is coming off a productive regular season where he posted a career high 19.5 points per game. His strong play earned him his first All Star selection and a spot on the All NBA third team, while helping Detroit secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, his production fell off significantly during the postseason. He struggled across 14 playoff games, dropping down to an average of 10.2 points per game before Detroit suffered a second round exit.
