Maresca Demands Attack Sharpness After Man City Defeat
Enzo Maresca wants Manchester City to finish their chances after losing to Aston Villa despite controlling much of the match.

Wasteful City fall at Villa Park
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca wants his players to be sharper in front of goal following a disappointing defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday. City registered 15 shots during the match at Villa Park, but they only managed to score once through a second half header from Erling Haaland.
Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki delivered a strong performance with six saves to hold off the visitors. City were also denied by the woodwork twice, as Iliman Ndiaye and Josko Gvardiol both hit the post. City are the second highest scorers in the league, but Maresca still believes his team must take better advantage of their chances.
Maresca explains Cherki substitution
Maresca noted that his team spent most of the match inside Villa half and around their box. He warned that the players need to be more precise on the final pass. He added that when playing Villa, you know you will concede some transitions because they wait for those moments.
Rayan Cherki had a tough afternoon after getting booked in the 38th minute. The 23 year old, who has scored six goals this season, was taken off at half time. Maresca explained that the substitution was strictly due to the yellow card, comparing it to taking off Rúben Dias against PSG in the Champions League.
Reaction and league standings
City remain at the top of the table despite losing their three point lead. Arsenal closed the gap with a 2-0 win over Everton.
Defender Rúben Dias praised his team for fighting until the end despite Villa taking advantage of two key transitions. Dias made it clear that the squad is focused on making a strong comeback against Brighton in the Carabao Cup this week.
