Jets and Giants Both Win Openers for First Time Since 2009
The Jets and Giants both won their Week 1 games, marking the first time both New York franchises have started 1-0 since the 2009 season.

A Rare Perfect Start for New York
New York football fans have plenty to celebrate after a historic opening weekend. Both the Giants and the Jets secured victories in Week 1, a feat that has not happened to start a season in fifteen years.
The Giants took care of business on Sunday Night Football, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 28-20. Earlier in the day, the Jets earned a comfortable 23-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans. This is the first time both teams have started the year 1-0 since 2009. It also marks the first time both franchises have been above .500 at the same time since Week 14 of the 2022 season.
Even the Buffalo Bills joined the party, beating the Houston Texans 36-31. With all three teams winning, it is the first time since 2008 that every New York franchise is undefeated after Week 1.
History Shows Mixed Results
The last time both MetLife Stadium teams started 1-0, their seasons went in very different directions.
In 2009, the Giants started hot with a 5-0 record in their final year at Giant Stadium. However, things fell apart. They suffered a four game losing streak and eventually missed the playoffs after a late season loss to the Cowboys.
The Jets had a wilder ride under first year head coach Rex Ryan. After starting 3-0, they slumped to 4-6. They recovered by winning five of their final six games to make the playoffs. The Jets went on to beat the Bengals in the AFC wild card round. They then beat the second seeded Los Angeles Chargers to reach the conference championship game. New York has not returned to the postseason since a consecutive conference final appearance the following year.
