City Face Tight Deadline
Manchester City are preparing to appeal a guilty verdict after being found to have committed serious breaches of the Premier League's financial rules. The club has until Friday, October 2 to officially submit their appeal.
The landmark ruling was announced on Tuesday. It follows an investigation into charges that were first made public in February 2023. An independent commission ruled that the club was guilty of breaches occurring between 2009 and 2018.
Club Denies Accusations
Manchester City have strongly rejected the findings. The club released a statement claiming the decision contains clear material errors of law, principle, and fact, and is unsafe.
Chief Executive Officer Ferran Soriano spoke directly to club staff in a video message. He stated that the entire case against the club is based on a single false accusation. Soriano denied that the owner's personal money was secretly funneled into the club through sponsors in Abu Dhabi, calling the claim untrue. City lawyers are now working to file the appeal.
League Demands Quick Resolution
The Premier League Board has stated that it wants the entire process resolved as quickly as possible. This includes any appeals and the publication of the final decisions.
The issue of what sanctions Manchester City will face has not yet been decided. The Premier League confirmed that punishments will be addressed separately in a future hearing with the independent commission.

The verdict has caused a massive stir across English football. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy commented that the guilty verdict could eventually lead to Manchester City being expelled from the Premier League.
Former player Roy Keane also gave a harsh assessment of the situation. Keane stated that he would put Manchester City medals in the bin after cheating.
