Oregon Overcomes Offensive Injuries in Historic 84-0 Shutout

A Record Night Despite Key Absences

No. 21 Oregon bounced back from a tough loss with a historic performance on Friday night. The Ducks dominated Portland State in an 84-0 shutout. The 84 points set a new program record for the most points scored in a single home game.

Despite the massive score, Oregon had to play without two of its biggest offensive weapons. Wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan and starting tight end Jamari Johnson both missed the game due to injuries.

McClellan Suffers Pregame Setback

McClellan was seen warming up in pads before the game. However, when the team came out after kickoff, he was on the sideline in street clothes. He wore a protective boot on his left foot and used crutches.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning addressed the injury after the game. He explained that McClellan got tweaked in pregame and needs an evaluation to see exactly what the issue is. Lanning added, "I don't know right at this moment."

McClellan has been a major part of the offense this year. In the season opener against Boise State, he caught six passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. He had a quieter game in the loss to Oklahoma State, finishing with just one catch for 20 yards.

More Injuries Pile Up for the Ducks

The Ducks are also missing senior tight end Jamari Johnson. The Inglewood, California native scored a touchdown in the opening week against Boise State. He missed the Oklahoma State game with an undisclosed injury. While he warmed up on Friday, he did not wear pads and did not play.

These injuries follow the news that offensive lineman Trent Ferguson is out for the rest of the season. Lanning announced earlier in the week that Ferguson suffered a season ending knee injury.

USC Matchup on the Horizon

Portland State remains winless after four games, but Oregon faces a much tougher challenge next week. The Ducks travel to Los Angeles to face USC in a game with major implications for the Big Ten and the College Football Playoff.

Lanning was pleased with how his team responded after last week's upset. He said that his squad is better, and while he meant no disrespect to Portland State, "that's the way it should look when we execute the way we should execute."
