Rays stay alive with late comeback

The Tampa Bay Rays saved their season on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Facing a potential sweep in the World Series, the Rays put together a wild rally in the 12th inning to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3. The victory keeps Milwaukee from securing its first championship in 57 years.

The game lasted 4 hours and 20 minutes. Yandy Diaz, the 35 year old designated hitter for Tampa Bay, summed up the mood in the locker room after the win. "We have tomorrow," Diaz said. "We have a new day. We have life."

Rookie home run puts Milwaukee ahead

For most of the night, both teams battled through 11 tight innings. In the top of the 12th inning, Milwaukee rookie Cooper Pratt stepped up against left hander Ian Seymour. The 22 year old hit the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a home run.

It was Pratt's fourth hit of the game. "I hit the thing and I was like, oh my gosh. That's gone," Pratt said. His hit gave Milwaukee a 3-2 lead, putting them just three outs away from a title.

Wild rally flips the game

Tampa Bay answered immediately in the bottom of the 12th. Junior Caminero reached base on an error by third baseman Joey Ortiz and first baseman Jake Bauers. Liam Hicks followed with a single to left field to put runners on first and third.

Jonny DeLuca then hit a single off pitcher Shane Drohan to tie the score 3-3. Chandler Simpson loaded the bases with a single up the middle. Pinch hitter Ben Williamson swung at the first pitch to drive in the winning run. Rays player Ryan Vilade called the finish "magic right there."
