Howard Makes History from Deep

Rhyne Howard has made WNBA history. The Atlanta Dream guard set a new single season record for 3 pointers on Thursday night during a dominant 103-59 victory over the Connecticut Sun.

Howard secured the record with 6:45 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was her only successful 3 pointer of the night on nine attempts, but it was enough to bring her season total to 129. This broke the previous record of 128 set by Sabrina Ionescu in 2023. Howard achieved this impressive milestone in only 40 games.

Dream Dominate in Return to Action

Howard was not the only Dream player celebrating. Angel Reese delivered a stellar performance, scoring 30 points on 11 of 14 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds. This marked Reese's 30th double double of the season, extending her own WNBA record. She played 25 minutes and finished just one point shy of her career high.

Allisha Gray also scored 10 points, which allowed her to break her own franchise record for the most points in a single season, reaching 782 points.

This was the first game back for Atlanta after a break of nearly three weeks for the FIBA World Cup. Both Howard and Reese recently won gold with the U.S. team in Germany. The playoff bound Dream now hold a 27-14 record.

For the struggling Connecticut Sun, who fell to 10-31, Olivia Nelson-Ododa led the team with 13 points, with all of them coming in the first half. The Sun struggled late in the game, getting outscored 31-11 in the third quarter and 27-13 in the fourth quarter. Connecticut also announced before the game that Brionna Jones will miss the rest of the season due to a left leg injury suffered on Aug. 13.
