Another Tough Night in Denver

The Colorado Rockies have reached a historic low. A 7-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night guaranteed the team its fourth consecutive season with at least 100 losses. An announced crowd of 19,324 fans, along with about 800 dogs for Bark at the Park night, watched the game at Coors Field.

Former Rockies All-Star Nolan Arenado had three hits for the Diamondbacks. Pitcher Michael Soroka threw seven innings and allowed just two hits to seal the win for Arizona. With this loss, Colorado became only the fifth team in major league history to lose 100 or more games in four straight seasons. They are the first franchise to do so since the New York Mets from 1962 through 1965.

Finding Lessons in the Struggle

Colorado manager Warren Schaeffer is trying to find positives in the tough run. "You learn your hardest lessons in difficulty in life," Schaeffer said. He added that the team wants to remember this feeling so they never experience it again.

The franchise has struggled for a long time. The Rockies have only made the playoffs twice since 2010. They have not won a postseason series since their World Series run in 2007. Since the start of the 2023 season, Colorado has won 220 games and lost 423. That is the worst record in the major leagues and is 23 games worse than the Chicago White Sox.

Pitching remains the biggest problem. The Rockies entered Tuesday with a team ERA of 5.57, which is the highest in the majors. If they finish the year with the worst ERA, it will be the fifth consecutive season they have done so. Only two other teams since 1913 have had the worst ERA in the majors for five straight years.
